Accelerating civic solutions for the Covid-19 crisis.
Transformative Coalition
16 Weeks | Berlin
During the first Covid-19 lockdown, we helped the world’s biggest online hackathon come to life by supporting its organization and participant engagement.
Our role extended to coaching the teams during the Solution Builder Program, and ensuring that the best ideas would be fast-tracked to scale.
Context
As the global pandemic changed urban life drastically, we realized that civic innovation can be a powerful tool to answer the crisis. The initiative of the federal hackathon #WirVsVirus was to find and prototype civic solutions within 48h online to tackle daily life challenges.
Our Role
Together with a consortium of seven initiatives, amongst them, Tech4Germany, Impact HUB Berlin, project together, and SEND e.V. we supported the participant management of the world’s largest hackathon. In the acceleration phase, we co-designed and led the Solution Builder Program, identifying the most promising solutions to help them develop an MVP.
Results
Within the Solution Builder, we accelerated ten solutions within eight weeks. Supported by Venture Partners like Google, McKinsey, BCG, and Vodafone, as well as outstanding experts from our network, we worked closely with the teams to develop or fine-tune their MVP, secure a first pilot, and get to the market.

About the program
Solution Builder
The Solution Builder Program, which we co-created and led with Impact Hub Berlin, had the goal of accelerating the most promising solutions out of more than 1500 ideas that had been developed during the 48-hour online hackathon. We also secured support from high impact partners like Google, BCG and McKinsey to mentor the ten teams in business development and providing them with tech and human resources.
